The Ganoderma lucidum expressed sequence tag (EST) sequencing project is a companion to the G. lucidum genome sequencing project. To date, ~48,000 ESTs of mycelia of a series of culturing days have been sequenced and analyzed. ~7,700 EST-based genes (~8,800 transcripts), were clustered. Compared to other EST sequencing projects of fungi, this project has discovered so far the highest "skipping exon" ratio in fungi, suggesting that alternative splicing may play a role that is hitherto unexplored in the development of multi-cellular fungi such as G. lucidum.
